Trek to Svaneti Mountains, Canyons and Caves

Tour Itinerary

Svaneti region is situated in the northwestern Georgia along the southern slopes of Greater Caucasus Mountains. It consists of two parts – Upper (Zemo) Svaneti and Lower (Kvemo) Svaneti. Upper Svaneti lies in the watershed of Enguri River. Surrounded by highest Georgian mountains, it is a popular tourist destination. Lower (Kvemo) Svaneti lies in Valley of Tskhenistskali River, separated from Upper Svaneti by the Svaneti mountain range. It feels like completely different world. It also has beautiful mountains, but simply pales in comparison to its northern neighbor Upper Svaneti. Svaneti can be visited all year round but the majority of tourists come during summer (for hiking) and during winter (for skiing).

Day 1: Arrival-transfer

Arrival to Tbilisi, meeting with company’s representative, transfer to the hotel, check in.

Day 2: Walking Tbilisi City Tour (10 km)

Breakfast in the hotel.
10:00 Meeting with guide. The old Tbilisi walking tour is the perfect thing to do to feel the beauty of this magnificent town. During this tour, you will walk through the old town’s tiny streets. You’ll have a chance to discover secrets behind colorful streets and hear beautiful legends and stories.
Firstly, Tour starts with walking from Rike park and Peace Bridge. Secondly, we move to Sulphur Baths, known as the city’s heart. Then we will walk through Meidan Bazar – is right underneath the Meidan square, the heart of touristic centre of Tbilisi. In this underground tunnel – shop all products of typical touristic interest are assembled. Everything is Made in Georgia here: from wine to hand crafted socks, from postcards to Georgian jams, sauces, spices and tea.
Free time for lunch
The next stop we will have at the Georgian national museum, where impressive galleries are lined with the art and artifacts of this diverse nation, dating back to the 8th millennium BC/or ethnographic museum– It occupies 65 hectares of land. There are 70 samples of various purpose traditional buildings in the museum. The museum is one of the most unique museums in Georgia: you can physically “visit” almost the regions of Georgia.
After transfer to the hotel, free time.
Evening dinner in a Georgian restaurant, where you will taste delicious Georgian foods and enjoy watching Georgian national dances. After transfer to the hotel. Night Stay in Tbilisi.(B/-/D)

Day 3: Tbilisi-Mestia (450 km 8 hours to drive + time for lunch)

Breakfast in the hotel. Check out, transfer to Mestia without guide. Free time to have a lunch. Arrival, check in, dinner in the hotel. Overnight in Mestia. (B/-/D)

Day 4: Mestia-Jabeshi village (14 km)

Breakfast in the hotel. Check out. Meeting with your local guide. Start of the most popular trekking route in Svaneti.
Trek from Mestia to Jabeshi village. Trek Distance 14 km, duration 5-7hours.
Starts at elevation 1500m above the sea level, maximum elevation is 1900m and ends at 1600m.
In Jabeshi there are mineral springs, the main attraction of Svaneti – the towers, the mountain landscapes of stunning beauty, among them: Gorge Mulkheri, snowy Summit of Tetnuldi (4858 m.), south slope of Banguriani, mountain Ushba and Tviberi range.
Arrive to Jabeshi. Accommodation in the guest house, here you’ll have also dinner. (B/-/D)

Day 5: Jabeshi village-Adishi village (13 km)

Trek from Jabeshi to Adishi village. Trek Distance 13 km, duration 5 hours.
Breakfast in the guesthouse. Check out. Trekking from Jabeshi village to Adishi village. Trail leads from the valley Mulakhura to Adishischala. Trail ends at elevation 2100m.
Arrive to Adishi, which is the one of Europe’s highest located mountain villages. The village has four churches: the Church of Christ, the Church of the Archangel, and two churches of Saint George. The Church of Christ used once contained icons from the 11th-14th centuries (now stored at a museum), as well as a manuscript of Shatberdi, including detailed artwork, dating back to 897. Day 6: Adishi village-Iprali village (18 km)

Trek from Adishi to Iprali village. Trek Distance 18 km, duration 7-8 hours. Maximal elevation 2700m. Trail ends at elevation 1900m.
Breakfast in the guest house, check out. Trekking from Adishi to Iprari village. On the way you will see ancient Svan towers and amazing nature.

Day 7: Iprali village-Ushguli-Mestia

From Iprari you will be driving by car to Ushguli. Ushguli is highest altitude all year long inhabited village in Europe 2060-2300 meters, lies at the bottom of Mount Shkhara. Ushguli consists of 4 villages, here you will see the fascinating views of Mount Shkhara, oldest towers of Svaneti and fortress of Queen Tamar.
Transfer to Mestia by car, accommodation and dinner in the hotel. (B/-/D)

Day 8: Mestia-Enguri Dam-Martvili Canyon-Kutaisi

Breakfast in the guest house, check out. Drive to Kutaisi, on the way we will stop to Enguri Dam, was built-in 60-70 years of 20th century represents one of the most fascinating examples of civil engineering achievements in Georgia. The objects that comprise the structure of Enguri HPP cover almost one thousand square kilometers from the city Jvari to the Black Sea.
It includes cascade of hydroelectric stations, including Enguri Arch Dam and about 400 tunnels and channels, the longest of which is about 15 kilometers. Here we
will have The walking tour offers the visitors to explore the attractive views to the Enguri Dam and the surrounding picturesque landscape from the viewing
platform; to get acquainted with the history of the dam construction, to learn about other attractive dams worldwide, to play with Enguri Dam Puzzle and etc.
After arrival to Martvili Canyons – which is 45 km away from Kutaisi. 700 meters circular hiking trail starts from the visitors’ centre and passes through
Dadiani’s historic walkway. There are 2 bridges, 3 viewing platforms, and 30-step historic staircase that is built from limestone staircase. Here you have the
opportunity to take a trip by boat, diving and explore beautiful places under the water. Accommodation at 3* hotel in Kutaisi. (B/-/-)

Day 9: Kutaisi-Prometheus cave-Mtskheta-Tbilisi

Breakfast in the guest house, check out. Visit Prometheus Cave which is full with stunning curtains of stalactites and stalagmites. There are 22 halls found,
where just 6 halls are open for tourists. It is possible to walk through the length of 1420 meters in the cave’s territory visit the halls and enjoy boat tour by
walking the river (Boat trip for Extra fee).
Free time for a lunch. Drive to Tbilisi, on the way we will visit city Mtskheta – Jvari Monastery: World Heritage site, is a Georgian Orthodox monastery of the
6th century above Mtskheta city. The name is translated as the Monastery of Cross. The great church represents the peak of the architectural typology. It is a
true architectural masterpiece of the early Medieval period overlooking the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers from the top of the hill.
Evening arrival to Tbilisi, check in, free evening, night stay in Tbilisi. (B/-/-)

Day 10: Departure

Breakfast in the hotel, check out, meeting with your driver at the lobby of the hotel and transfer to the Tbilisi international airport. Departure.
